A bright and bubbly bride plus a laid back and adoring groom made for one heartfelt, emotional, funny and joyous Airlie Beach Elopement.
Bethanie and Josh are each other’s yin and yang, complimenting each other perfectly, so one may think they would have different views on what type of wedding to have? Well, not for these two love birds, when it was time to get hitched they both agreed Eloping was the way to go! And they did it in absolute secrecy – the couple’s family and friends were used to them jetting off on holidays so a trip to the Whitsundays was not out of the norm.
After the ceremony the couple recorded a video message to let the secret out…
Why did you choose the Whitsundays for your elopement destination?
We both wanted somewhere in Australia and it was the first place that we both thought of. Beautiful location, warm weather & the great barrier reef. Meant to be.
Had you visited the Whitsundays prior to your wedding?
It was our first time in Airlie Beach together. I had never been there before but always wanted to go, and Josh went as a child and always wanted to go back.
What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?
Aside from the beautiful location and a built in honeymoon, Jess, our wedding planner, made everything so easy.
We are from Newcastle, so having that support up there was crucial, we really needed to trust someone to take care of everything up there for us.
Jess was amazing! She was so organised and knew everything. The accommodation, my hair and makeup, transport… Even the little things, like bringing us food and drinks on the day to the recommendations for everything that suited our style and budget.
The food and lifestyle In Airlie beach was unreal, so laid back and fun. And the food! AMAZING! The hot rock dinner at Village Café is still one of the best meals we have ever had and talked about. We will definitely be going back up for a holiday!
Did your wedding have a theme or style even though you eloped?
YES! We both love simple, soft and beautiful. My dress was from Elle Zeitoune, I had my belt custom made from a lovely woman I met at the Olive Tree Markets in Newcastle, FIG Design Unique Jewellery. The earrings I wore were pearl.Josh wore a Navy Suit with a pink tie both from gentlemen outfitters in newcastle with black leather shoes.
We just wanted everything to be timeless, something we could look back at in 20 years and still love.
My bouquet was unbelievable, that florist [Flower Hut] is worth more money! I told her what I liked and emailed her photos and she delivered beyond my expectations and they lasted for our entire stay!
Did you have a wedding budget at all? If so, where did you splurge and where did you save?
Our overall budget was $10,000 for everything.
We splurged on our accommodation at Pinnacles, getting the ceremony video recorded with an additional highlights video, extra time with Deb our photographer and the day tours. We wanted to enjoy everything and be able to come home and relive it. So worth it.
The savings were definitely in using The Wedding Planners! Jess was able to get us in touch with local businesses that they recommend and knew they would take care of us.
And of course the reception, the only guests were Josh and I so we saved thousands.
How long did you stay in the Whitsundays and did you do any other activities whilst here?
We were in Airlie Beach for 2 weeks and it was amazing, we just loved every bit of it! We went on the extreme boat tour, Ocean Rafting, which took us to Whitehaven Beach for lunch, a guided hike up to the look out [Hill Inlet] and then snorkeling.
We also went to the Great Barrier Reef for a day trip and got to go on the submarine, the most beautiful snorkeling we have ever experienced! Plus Josh went on a guided scuba diving experience whilst I got a massage on the top deck!
Endless blue sky, crystal clear water, pure bliss.
We also went paddle boarding for an afternoon and then dinner and drinks at Magnums before British India played. Best night.
