Living in Victoria and at the start of winter, who wouldn’t want to holiday to the Whitsundays? Bec and James’ wedding guests felt the same way as a whopping 74 made the trip up to Airlie Beach for a destination wedding week. Swimming at the resort pool or down at the Lagoon, wining and dining around town and a beach bbq were just a few of the activities for guests pre and post wedding. The big day itself was nothing short of spectacular – Bec had planned everything to a T and with the resort accommodation, ceremony and reception all nearby guests moved effortlessly from one place to another enjoying the beautiful view, sunset drinks and of course the photo booth along the way!
Tell us about the proposal.
James knew I wouldn’t enjoy a big public proposal so Christmas morning, still at home in PJ’s, James gave me a little box all wrapped up, and when I opened it there was a ring. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!! Obviously I said yes! I don’t know how he’ll ever top that Christmas day!!!
Why did you choose Airlie Beach for your destination wedding?
Being from a small town in Victoria we wanted to do something that wasn’t the same as every other wedding we have been in at home! What better place to do something different than Queensland!
Plus everyone loved the chance for a mini break in some sunshine!
Key Styling Inspiration
I had a billion Pintrest boards!! But it was so easy to find gorgeous tropical inspiration for our décor!
What gifts did you give your guests?
Our guests received acrylic photo frames from In The Booth which they could put their photo booth prints in as a keepsake – and we had a candy bar!
What did you do for your honeymoon?
We spent a week in Sydney on our way back to Victoria.
What was the funniest moment from the day?
The funniest moment was probably when a tourist followed my poor flower girl down the aisle not realising what an Australian wedding looked like!!!!
What was the most special memory from the day?
The most special moment (apart from the ceremony of course) for me was probably James’ speech – it was so heartfelt and was very special!
What advice would you give other brides to be?
Work out your budget early on and stick to it – it is so easy to blow out without even realising it. Make the time to ‘shop around’ to find exactly what you want for your day and within your budget.
Be as organised as you can and then on the day relax, trust your suppliers to do their job and don’t sweat the small stuff.
Your day may not be 100% perfect, but as long as you get to marry the man of your dreams at the end of it nothing else will matter – trust me!
Special Thanks to……
My parents and my sister for putting up with my constant emails in the 6 months before the wedding!! Also Jess & Roxanne at The Wedding Planners Whitsundays – I was worried trying to plan a wedding from the other side of the country would be stressful or difficult, but the girls could not have made it more of a dream to organise. They made sure everything ran so perfectly on the day! It would not have been such a wonderful day without them!!
