When Hannah & Damien first met, sparks flew instantly. Although, the two of them did not quite realise it at first, but rather their colleagues were the ones to pick up on the connection and suddenly it all became very clear to them that their relationship was bound to blossom. Damien was very persistent, eager to impress a young Hannah, but something told her that this was not just the kind of guy you casually dated. This was the kind of man you married. And five years later, just a stones throw away from where they got engaged, these two became Husband & Wife at Earlando!
Tell us about the proposal
In July 2017, Damien whisked me out to Hydeaway Bay and we found a little private beach down from Cape Gloucester. As far as I knew we were going there for lunch and a dip in the ocean. But, within 5 minutes of setting ourselves up with a towel on the beach, Damien was down on one knee. Hydeaway Bay and the Cape Gloucester area is by far one of our favourite spots on this entire earth – even before the proposal!
Why did you choose the Whitsundays for your destination wedding?
Once upon a time, Earlando was a place where I (Hannah) and Damien would travel to with family on school holidays. It was there that we spent our holidays camping, fishing and enjoying the magic that Earlando is – the place holds a very special place in our hearts.
Earlando holds a very special place in our hearts!
We had heard that Earlando was only re-opening for Events and Weddings a few months before we got engaged, so it was definitely on our list to check out! It was the first venue we looked at and the last – I had my fingers crosses that Damien would fall in love, but as if anyone wouldn’t?!
Key Styling Inspiration
We wanted a very intimate and lux wedding, from there, along with the help of Borrow My Bits, we came up with a pretty spectacular setting! I did try to add some DIY touches, but perfection got the better of me so I handed it over to the professionals – especially when it came to the acrylic signage!
What gifts did you give your guests?
Our bonbonnerie was very personal, we chose to make donations to the Leukemia Foundation and the Starlight’s Children’s Foundation. Those two foundations then provided ribbons and pins which guests were able to take.
What did you do for your honeymoon?
I would say that our Honeymoon was not a traditional one, it was done almost immediately after the wedding. Damien and I love the snow, so we opted for a white Christmas with plenty of time for snowboarding. We spent 3 weeks in Canada visiting Vancouver, Whistler, Rockies where we visited Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper! In order to defrost we then headed south to Mexico and the Caribbean, where we spent a further two weeks on our Honeymoon.
What was the funniest moment from the day?
There were quite a few falls off the hutchy and the chairs – I won’t mention any names! Damien managed to get close to everyone doing a ‘shoey’ following his speech!
What was the most special memory from the day?
The entire day and night was perfect (and very much a blur). The speeches stand out as one of the most special moments throughout the day – they make you think “wow, we have some incredible people in our lives.”
What advice would you give other brides to be?
Stay true to you and your husband-to-be and remember the day is yours!
Trust your gut instincts and listen to your hearts!
Yes, vendors are the professionals and deal with their specialty day in and day out, but challenge that if there is something that you really want!
Special Thanks to
To all of our family and friends who made the trip up to Airlie Beach (all guests traveled). All of our amazing vendors, especially the staff at Earlando (a truly amazing bunch of people) and The Wedding Planners Whitsundays! The day was seamless, our time at Earlando will be remembered for a lifetime, not just by us, but by all of our guests as well!
