Initially meeting in high school, Hayley and Darrin rekindled their love five years before their marriage. During this time they dreamt of having a destination wedding and initially they were looking overseas. But as soon as Hayley found the Whitsundays she knew this was the destination she had been dreaming of. With an image of a classic yet modern white wedding adorned with floral and set by the sea it wasn’t long before Hayley and Darrin booked Coral Sea Resort for their big day.

Tell us about the proposal.

The proposal was SO unexpected! Darrin had planned a nice night out to a restaurant along the harbour, but it didn’t quite go to plan and we never ended up going to dinner. This particular night we ended up getting take out (which we got sick from). Later that night (before we got sick) we were lying in bed about to go to sleep and Darrin bounced up onto one knee on the bed, in his undies and asked, “babe will you marry me?” Of course I said YES!!!

Why did you choose Airlie Beach for your destination wedding?

We had always wanted a destination wedding but had always thought of a wedding overseas.

The moment I saw the website for weddings in the Whitsundays I just knew this was the place for us and we booked it straight away.

We had never been to the Whitsundays before and we were planning on a trip prior to the wedding day to see where our wedding would be held. But as all things happen travel plans kept getting pushed back and soon I was too heavily pregnant and couldn’t fly. So I had to trust it was as beautiful as it looked online. And let me tell you, the pictures you see on the website are exactly what you see in person, it’s stunning!!

Key Styling Inspiration

Definitely coastal waterfront – I had to have the nice crisp white classic but modern look, with greenery and a lot of floral! I especially loved king proteas. The theme carried over and matched perfectly with our bridesmaids and groomsmen attire as well as the location. The groomsmen wore navy blue chino suit style pants, white shirts with vests, and the bridesmaids had long navy blue dresses.

Everything about our day was timeless!

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We decided to have our honeymoon in the Whitsundays and explore the beautiful locations.

What was the funniest moment from the day?

My finniest moment would have had to of been when we were saying our vows, I was actually caught up in the moment that I forgot what I was saying and had to ask Annie (celebrant) to repeat what it was. Oops!!!!

What was the most special memory from the day?

Definitely seeing my gorgeous daughter in her flower girl dress for the first time. But also walking down and seeing my man at the alter and seeing his facial expression. Something I’ll treasure forever!

What advice would you give other brides to be?

The best advice I got and I can give to other brides is to relax, stay calm and most importantly just enjoy every single moment of your beautiful day.

Special Thanks to……

Would have to go to our beautiful wedding planner, without the help I would have been so nervous and super stressed. Our day was  perfect in every way and I can’t thank you enough!

Everything I asked for or needed was there for me.

Also, a very special thanks to our parents for their help and support through the whole planning process as well.
