Traveling all the way from WA, Michelle and Aaron still had no hesitation in choosing the Whitsundays for their intimate destination wedding. And the Whitsundays certainly did not disappoint…

Just a few days into summer Michelle, Aaron and their 26 guests were greeted with sunny skies, gentle breezes and warm days. Perfect conditions for meet and greet dinners, a trip out to the islands snorkeling and visiting Whitehaven Beach, and of course the big day itself.

Michelle and Aaron didn’t hold back when it came to their wedding day and treated guests to all the Whitsundays had to offer. Starting with a garden ceremony on the waters edge, guests watched the couple say their I do’s with the crystal waters, emerald mountains and clear blue sky behind them. Guests were then transported to nearby Denman Cellars for a relaxing post-ceremony drink and family photos before boarding their private sunset cruise aboard Sundowner Cruises. Once back on land guests were then taken up Mount Whitsunday to Peppers Airlie Beach where an intimate dinner setting was awaiting in Peppers open air, undercover pavilion.

What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?

All our guests got to know each other. My (Michelle’s) family and most of my friends are from Victoria and Aaron’s family and friends are from Western Australia so most had never met each other and we don’t know the next time they might all see each other so it was really important to us that everyone got an opportunity to meet each other and get to know each other.

Everyone was so relaxed because they had all travelled to be there and were on a holiday.

It was like one big family holiday, most of us (including the Bride and Groom) almost forgot we were there for our wedding! One of my closest friends, who knew no one else there before arriving on Thursday, said to me at the reception that she felt like she was at Christmas dinner with all her family. That really sums up how well everyone got along which is what our aim was for having a destination wedding.

Why did you choose the Whitsundays as your wedding destination?

We wanted a relaxed wedding and we had always wanted to go to the Whitsundays so thought we would combine the two!

How long did you stay in the Whitsundays and did you do any other activities whilst here?

We stayed five nights in Airlie Beach and then had our honeymoon on Hamilton Island for seven nights. Most of our guests arrived on the Wednesday and Thursday. We did a range of activities – on the Wednesday night before the wedding we had a dinner with both sets of parents, on Thursday we had separate hens and bucks dinners, Friday we went Ocean Rafting with almost all our guests, Saturday was the wedding and on Sunday we had a barbecue to wind things up.

Did your wedding have a theme or a particular style? Please give details if possible.

Not really, we had a rough style idea of modern vintage but essentially just chose stuff we liked.

Why did you choose your venue/location?

Headland Park (ceremony) – it was perfect. We were right by the water but didn’t have to walk on sand and deal with sand getting in our shoes. The plants and trees around made it feel really tropical and there were minimal passerby’s so it was very private.

Peppers (reception) – we wanted a private location for our reception that was outside but in a covered area.

Peppers exceeded our expectations, the view was amazing, the food was outstanding and the staff were just fantastic.

What was your wedding budget?

We planned to spend about $10,000 but ended up spending about $14-15,000 when you include the wedding dress and a few extras. Plus the honeymoon.

What did you do for your hens and bucks night?

It was very low key – just went out to dinner. The boys went to Denman Cellars and the ladies went to Sorrento Restaurant, both in Airlie Beach.
