Mr & Mrs Pownall met each other while working at the same place of work. She was super shy and Sean was just super rude really – although if he was writing this it would be the other way around! They worked together fighting crime in Melbourne’s Northern suburbs for 2 years before going on their first date. After the first date, they never looked back!
Sean’s not the most romantic fellow, mind you, neither am I but he did a smashing job on the day he proposed. He drove me down to the Mornington Peninsula, took me horse riding on the surf beach which was fabulous. We then got pampered at the Peninsula Hot Springs – I had a feeling that he might have proposed while we were there but when he didn’t I must admit, I was kinda disappointed. He then drove me to Rye Back Beach and proposed there while we watched a storm roll in. So in the end, it was quite romantic. Well done Sean!
Why did you choose Airlie Beach for your destination wedding?
We had our ceremony at the beautiful Headland Park, Boathaven Beach in Airlie Beach. It was absolutely stunning with beautiful lush green grass and a back drop to die for. We had perfect weather too, not a cloud in the sky. We felt very blessed. Our reception was at Waterline on Shingley in Airlie Beach which was beautiful. It had a stunning view over Abel Point Marina, perfect spot to watch the sun go down with a cocktail or two.

I love corals, peaches, greys and whites – so I incorporated all these colours in our styling. Jess made some great suggestions with styling for the reception and Flower Hut – well, I didn’t even need to give them any suggestions, they were simply spectacular. My flowers, flower crown and table decorations were perfect!
What gifts did you give your guests?
We gave our guests personalised sugar cookies from the fabulous Alisha from Sweet Bakes in Melbourne.
What did you do for your honeymoon?
After spending a week or so with our family and friends in Airlie Beach for the wedding, Sean and I ventured over to Hamilton Island for 5 nights. It was fabulous. Beautiful beaches, good food and wine, relaxing massages and never ending activities. We did a walk up Passage Peak while we were there and boy, was that a highlight! Strenuous and tough but completely worth it. Absolutely incredible views. It was a highlight of our honeymoon.
What was the funniest moment from the day?
We had lots of funny moments throughout the day but it would have to be me and my clown feet tripping over my dress – at least the sand was there for a soft landing. My stepdaughter thought it was the funniest thing ever. I’m glad I’m not the embarrassing step mum just yet!
What was the most special memory from the day?
Have fun with your day. Don’t stress over the little things and just enjoy marrying the person of your dreams!
