With a shared love of travel and adventure Zaley and Jake could have easily met at a bar and hit it off. Fortunately for them, they didn’t have to wait for fate, they had their own personal match maker – Jake’s sister!

Zaley moved to Geelong and began working with Jake’s sister. Being new to town, Jake’s sister and mum, thought it would be a good idea for Jake to take Zaley out. Zaley says they ‘forced him’, but we highly doubt that! It was pretty clear they had a lot in common and soon became best friends and eventually started dating.

Among their many adventures, Zaley and Jake took a spontaneous trip to Bali (Zaley thanks the super cheap flight deals!). One night in their hotel room Jake was acting a bit strange, quickly got down on two knees and pulled out a ring box. It was an ordinary ring box, but the ring was anything but… He unfolded a cable tie ring he had made and said, “do you umm.. maybe wanna marry me?”. Zaley said it was so sweet!!! Once back home they decided to design Zaley’s engagement ring together.

Why did you choose the Whitsundays and Whitehaven Beach for your wedding location?

We wanted to stay in Australia and wanted to go somewhere warm that we hadn’t been before. We had seen so many pictures we knew it would be a beautiful place, and it certainly did not disappoint!

What was your key styling inspiration?

Relaxed and free spirited.

Did you have any DIY details?

You guys [The Wedding Planners Whitsundays] did all the work!

What was your wedding budget?

Where did you splurge and where did you save?

We ended up splurging more on the holiday and videography.

What else did you do While you were here in the Whitsundays?

Before the wedding we had a lovely few days in Airlie Beach; shopping, walking, swimming, eating and drinking. After the wedding we went skydiving, on the Great Barrier Reef Tour and then to the magnificent Palm Bay Resort for our honeymoon.

What was the funniest moment of your day?

Getting into the helicopter going to Whitehaven and the pilot, Makita, put on a wedding playlist he made. It was the Top Gun soundtrack, I couldn’t stop laughing.

What’s your special memory of the day, aside from the obvious?

The whole morning was the best ever, but the most special memory will be how happy we were and the look in Jake’s eyes.

Any advise for other brides-to-be?

Do it your way, have fun and have no regrets. The day is about you and your husband and that is all that matters.
