Two Whitsunday wedding suppliers involved in a $50,000 wedding giveaway to celebrate marriage equality have been recognised for their outstanding services with national awards.
The Wedding Planners Whitsundays and Beautiful Weddings Whitsundays were announced as winners of their respective categories at the 20th Queensland ‘Australian Bridal Industry Academy’ Awards in Brisbane last night.
The Wedding Planners Whitsundays topped the wedding planning list with a rating of 99.94% and Beautiful Weddings took out the top spot for decorations and styling with 99.62%.
Jess Lawrence from The Wedding Planners Whitsundays, who has been at the forefront of a regional marriage equality campaign about to culminate in the region’s largest same sex wedding to date, said this was recognition for not just her business but also the Whitsundays.
“I’ve always known we have a great team in our key staff and planners but it’s also about the suppliers we work with who provide such a great service – so it’s nice to get that recognition state-wide,” she said.
“And I think it’s just adding to the credentials of the Whitsundays in general. Weddings play a big part in the region so this is a reflection on not only us, but also the area as a destination.
“It is amazing for us, for the region, for marriage equality and one step forward for the Whitsundays.”
Beautiful Weddings Whitsundays franchisee owner Felicity Rhodes echoed these sentiments saying it was good to be able to give back to the community.
“And it’s nice when your clients, who are ultimately the ones that vote in these awards, are happy with what you do,” she said.

Joshua Breakwell and Joshua Starr, the Newcastle couple who won the Whitsundays’ upcoming $50,000 wedding giveaway and have just visited the region on a planning trip, said they couldn’t be happier to hear of their suppliers’ success.
“Travelling to Paradise Cove Resort, the place where we will finally be married was amazing, but getting to meet Felicity and Jess – the woman behind all the planning – was just as exciting,” Joshua Breakwell said.
“We’re thrilled they have won these awards for their amazing work.
“It’s very well deserved and we can’t express our gratitude enough.”
